Karaoke Contest Rules

The contest qualifying rounds start the first week of April and run weekly until the middle of July. The Semi-finals will take place July 12^th through the 19^th.

The semi-finals for each venue will pay:

1^st place $150, 2^nd place $100 and 3^rd place $50.

The finals will be held at The A Club in downtown Spokane on Saturday, July 21^st,2012. (The exact start time of the finals has yet to be determined but all finalists will be notified in advance.)

Details:

There will be one weekly winner from each venue. All of the weekly winners will compete in the semi-finals at that venue location. Once a person wins one of the qualifying weekly contests, he or she advances to the semi-finals. To have a valid qualifying round contest, there must be at least 4 contestants. Each qualifying round will be limited to 20 participants. Contestants can compete at any of the venues that are participating in the contest, however contestants can only qualify for one semi-final. The weekly winner will be announced that same evening.

Sign ups will be on a first come-first served basis. The sign-up sheet will not be put out until 30 minutes before the normal start time for karaoke that night. There is a $5 cash only entry fee for each contestant. This entry fee must be paid each time a contestant enters a weekly contest. Once you win and move onto the semi-finals or finals, contestants no longer have to pay an entry fee.

Singers may bring their own discs, but you must bring an original disc in good condition for the player to read them. We cannot guarantee that your disc will play correctly. Please have a back up disc or song selection prepared to give our karaoke host should the need arise. Also, in the case of a tie, there will be a sing-off and contestants will need a second song ready.

Names will be randomly drawn to determine the singer’s rotation for qualifying rounds and the final round.

Who Can Participate?

This is a singing contest open to amateurs. Please, no professional singers. If you are a paid performer, this is not a contest for you. (If you made $100 singing at your cousin’s wedding, you can compete.) If you have a question on your eligibility, please contact us at kbrown@SpokaneNightOut.com for verification. If someone makes it to the semi-finals or finals and their eligibility is in question, we will review it. If they are disqualified, the runner up will take their place in the competition. Eligibility is at the sole discretion of the owners of Our NightOut LLC. Contestants must be at least 18 years old.

Employees of the venue will not be allowed to compete at their own venue, but may compete at other participating venues.

Relatives (immediate family) of the venue owners will not be allowed to compete at their own venue, but may compete at other participating venues.

Boyfriends or girlfriends of the KJ or venue owner will not be allowed to compete at their venue, but may compete at other participating venues.

No staff of Our NightOut LLC or their immediate family members may compete at any venue.

Duets

Duets are not allowed.

Judging

Three judges will be provided for each venue on a weekly basis by Our NightOut LLC. If a judge knows a contestant, they will not be allowed to enter a score for that contestant. The third score will be an average of the other 2 scores.

There will be at least 3 judges for the semi-finals.

There will be 5 judges for the finals. Judges will be selected that have a professional knowledge of music. Professional singers, professional band members, music teachers, vocal coaches, recording engineers, etc.

Scoring

Scoring will be based upon a 100 point system.

50 points for vocal ability

5 points for audience interaction-Did the singer sing to the audience? Was the singer able to get the audience into his or her performance?

10 points for knowledge and timing-Was the singer glued to the lyrics monitor? Are the words sung in the correct timing?

10 points for stage presence-Is the singer comfortable performing, does he or she move, dance or own the space, etc?

5 points for song selection-Does the song fit the singers vocal range and ability?

10 points for audience reaction- applause levels.

10 points for judges overall impression-judges discretion.

Tie Breaker

In the event of a tie, there will be a sing-off to break the tie.

Marty McKinney began writng & recording the album late 2010, when asked to play some lead guitar on the album long time friend Dave Fiorini offered to help produce the album, together they phoned Jimmy Minton- long time drummer for their former band "The Edge" and the next week he flew in from Arizona and recorded the drum tracks in 2 days (never hearing them before) then Dave called Dan Wexler- friend & former band mate (Thieves in the Temple) (Icon) and flew him into Spokane to play some lead guitar and add flavor, a year later the album is finally mixed down and currently in Duplication.

Coeur d' Alene Festival of Trees 2011 Holiday Weekend Kickoff

The Festival Of Trees is one of my favorite events of the year. When my children were young we made sure to see the Holiday Lights Parade, Santa make his yearly debut, watch the fireworks and sing Silent Night on the Resort lawn. Then we got our first glimpse of the Christmas Trees in all their splendor inside the Coeur d' Alene Resort. We would meander over to The Shoppes and check out the Ice Castle, the elves and get photos with Santa, have a cookie and a hot cocoa. We even entered the Gingerbread House Competition a few years. How fun to go look and find it on display! The kids loved it!

I've performed at The Senior Social twice and that was a blast! Those were my Red Hot Mama days of course. I've never been to the Saturday Night Gala.....I've always worked in restaurants all these years. Tough to get a ticket! Our community supports this event so well. How great is that? Sunday was always my favorite....Family Day. The craft area....my kids always came away with a momento to hang on the tree or give to Grandma. The school Chorus' that perform the unique arrangements of Christmas music while all the parents vie for an optimal recording angle highlights the afternoon. We would be sure and have a fun family meal out that day smack dab in the center of all the holiday glitz! Then there is the Fashion Show.....my husband has even been in the show modeling men's attire. What a great way to showcase the beautiful setting!

A lot has changed through the years. But a lot has stayed the same. My kids are grown. But they have the most wonderful memories of this weekend kickoff....

Heading to the Lighting Ceremony on Friday night, then singing (with thousands of others) on the Resort lawn. Will follow that with the Fireworks then a walk around to take it all in. Really looking forward to Sunday as always. This year, I get to be a part of Monday's Fashion Show.....not modeling....singing! I'll be singing a song with two of my dear friends. That's new! Making new memories....mixing them in with traditions. I love Coeur d' Alene and the holidays!

All this and it benefits our local community...raising over 3.7 million $$ for many different Kootenai Health related causes. Over the years, the festival has supported such projects as the Kootenai Heart Center, the Kootenai Health Walden House, the Kootenai Cancer Center, the Kootenai Medical Center Birthing Center, the Kootenai Health Patient Transportation Program, and the McGrane Center for Rehabilitation and Therapeutic Care.

This weekend has plenty in store in our regional community;

First Friday is tonight in downtown Spokane. Art, Food, Music and great people. First Night Spokane's "Rising Stars" is back with the amazing "Bubbillusionist", Jarom Watts. Jarom is a multiple Guinness World Record Holder and has dazzled audiences of all ages with his amazing bubble magic. See soap bubbles turned into a twisted tornado along with other mesmerizing feats! River Park Square Atrium 7-9pm. That is just one example of the family friendly fun to bbe had!

The next First Friday is in September and could have cool brisk weather, so go enjoy it tonight....savoring summer.

This weekend is also Taste of the Coeur d' Alene's, the Downtown Street Fair and Art On The Green in Coeur d' Alene. You can stroll all over the NIC campus for Art On The Green, cruise over to the City Park for Taste Of The Coeur d' Alene's and then end up downtown on Sherman Avenue for the Street Fair. All along the way you will find art, music and food...with the beautiful lake as the backdrop. And for those who think that is too much walking, there is a free shuttle bus service making the rounds all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday to cart you back and forth. Gorgeous weather for a fun community party. Don't forget your sunscreen!

Getting Around On Race Day

Getting around town from North to South on Ironman Cda Raceday can be no big deal if you are in Post Falls and want to stay there. But trying to go from Hayden to Coeur d'Alene can be a challenge when you live on a cul-de-sac and the race course is a section of road at the end of your street!

Trying to zig and zag from East to West as you make your way South from North can try your endurance and patience as you are waiting for the "coast to be clear" so the volunteers who are standing guard at the intersections can wave you through. Of course the patience and endurance comes as you have to wait for the 15 cars AHEAD of you to be waved through! You finally make it to the front of the line and it hits you. You see an Ironman participant cycle through in front of you and you really understand endurance and patience. Waiting to "drive" through an intersection is nothing compared to the goal these athletes are working to achieve!

I was just hoping to get downtown and get a good parking spot so I could enjoy the festive atmosphere. It is good to work towards a goal.

Proud of our town for throwing such a first class event and showcasing us to the nation! Below is some information to help get around on race day. Hope it makes it easier!

The award-winning play is based on V-Day Founder/playwright Eve Ensler's interviews with more than 200 women. With humor and grace the piece celebrates women's sexuality and strength. Through this play and the liberation of this one word, countless women throughout the world have taken control of their bodies and their lives. For more than twelve years, The Vagina Monologues has given voice to experiences and feelings not previously exposed in public.

A casual twitter conversation with CDANightOut gave me a great local Cool Click to feature on Good Morning Northwest. Consider the website your guide to the Lake City's nightlife.

Coeur d' Alene resident Kim, along with her husband Larry, were looking for a new business endeavor, like buying a restaurant or coffee stand, but went in an entirely different direction instead they own a website.

Kim found she was always being asked, "What is there to do?" In order to answer those queries she developed CDANightOut, where events and goings-on are funneled.

After 30+ years of experience between Kim and her husband in the hospitality/tourism industry, this couple was made to host a city nightlife guide.

CDANightOut is the stop you make before Google maps, it's where you figure out where you're going. The-hyper local focus of the website makes it a perfect place for either long-time Coeur d' Alene residents or out-of-towners to figure out where the hot spots are.

From bars to restaurants and even salons and limo services, CDANightOut has it all. You'll find dinner and drink specials, karaoke nights and more.

There's another layer to this very user-friendly website, too -- businesses and bands can pay a small fee to be featured on the site.

Kim tells me both bands and businesses can be listed on the site for free, but there's an upgrade option. Bands can upgrade for $30 and post six months worth of play dates on the site's events calendar. Businesses pay $15 to $20 for an upgraded account and can list their menu, Google map link and more.

We're celebrating this website for a few reasons here. One, it's owned and operated by a local couple. Two, you no longer have to ask "what is there to do?" and three, businesses have a new outlet for advertising.

Not only this, but it also meets my requirements for an all-around good website:

-Easy to navigate

-Easy on the eyes

-No pop ups

-Free or no registration (in this case there's no user registration. Yay!)

Kim has big plans for CDANightOut, including a coupon page. Once she and her husband get their Cd'A website to where they want it to be, you can expect a SpokaneNightOut website... oh yes, you'll never have a dull weekend in the Inland Northwest with this couple on your side.
